Case Study: Dancing the Night Away

The screen fades in. The lights are low and a mellow/romantic tune is playing in the background. Gro is sitting in a chair, located center stage

Gro: (Softly) Tonight, I am going away from the usual. I am going to have a serious show tonight. Sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Music gets louder as Gro begins singing.

Gro:

Lord I can see, you watching over me as I sit alone In this room. Open my eyes so that I may see, and make me New as a flower in bloom; my heart cries out to know every Plan you have made, won't you come and hold me cause I'm So afraid.

Please fill me up with the power of your love, and save me From the pits of despair. When I lay down at night, you're The one I think of, For you I'd go anywhere...

Camera cuts around and Smo is seen watching from around the corner.

Gro: (Still singing)

My heart cries out to know every plan you have made, won't you come and hold me cause I'm so afraid...

Smo still stands around the corner listening, occasionally peering over his shoulder, as if someone is with him.

Gro: (Singing)

Lord I can feel you watching out there; taking care of your Servant so true. When it's the time, will you help me find A love that was meant to be true.

Smo: (Whispering to himself) Tonight could be my lucky night. Of all nights for Gro to do this...ha ha...yes!

Gro pulls out a guitar and begins playing. The camera goes back to Smo. Smo winks at the camera then turns around. As the camera zooms out, Smo takes someones hand and leads them to an empty spot on the stage. Smo and Kelsy begin dancing.

Gro: (Singing in the background. Camera is still on the dancing couple)

Lord I can see you're watching over me as I sit alone in this room. Open my eyes so that I may see, and make me new, as a flower in bloom.

Gro looks over and sees Smo and Kelsy dancing.

Gro: (Disgustingly) Oh great, Smo's gonna ruin the seriousness of my show. (Pauses in fear)........(Takes a deep breath) Whew, maybe everything will be ok. Just hopefully.

Camera shows Smo and Kelsy dancing. The shot shows them from the waist up.

Kelsy: Uhh, Smo?

Smo: Yes?

Kelsy: Could you get off my feet?

Smo: Oh (Stumbles) sorry. Kelsy, your eyes are as beautiful as the shiny tuning pegs on my new guitar.

Kelsy: Oh..uhhh..how nice..heh.

Smo and Kelsy continue dancing. Several times Smo steps on her feet and stumbles around.

Smo: I'm really enjoying myself. Your hair is like a mop sweeping across the floor, your skin as soft as the fur on a cat, and you look as great as a rock star breaking into a whaling lead solo.

Kelsy: Oh..Smo, please stop....I mean literally please stop!

Smo: You know, I'm starting to think twice about this NGFL thing. I mean, I think this dog is finally having his day.

Smo steps on Kelsy's feet once more. This time he trips, but catches himself before hitting the floor.

Kelsy: Well you can think that, but I'm leaving! I've had enough of this! I'm going home and calling Daryl.

Kelsy marches out of the stuio.

Smo sits down, back against the wall. He lowers his head in shame, thinking about what just took place.

Smo: The tables have turned... (Thinks to himself) I should have stopped with the dream. I'm always been so smooth. What's happened to me? (Begins sniffling) I really can't believe this.

Gro: (Looks into the side camera) As Smo says, the plot has thickened.

Realizing his serious show is turning into a nightmare, Gro springs into action. He ends his song.

Gro: Hey Smo, what's up buddy? You remember how you let me borrow Liberty? Well I brought her to the studio with me tonight.

Smo: I let you borrow Liberty?

Gro: Ok, no, but I thought she might be needed tonight by some odd chance (looks at camera) (Odd chance, right, I knew what would happen)....and well no pun intended but I took the liberty of bringing Liberty with me.

Smo: Let me get this straight. You took MY guitar, MY Liberty, without asking ME first?! And you thought that by some freak chance you would need it tonight?

Gro: Smo, face it, everytime I do something sentimental you screw it up even when you're not supposed to be there, so tonight, as a kind gesture I thought I would have your guitar waiting on you to comfort you when you screwed up.

Smo: I'm no idiot, what's the catch? My night can't get any worse so just open up.

Gro: No catch buddy, just you, me, the studio, and as much noise as we wanna make on the only reliable women in our lives.

Smo: Heh, we're so pathetic...(Laughs)...The only women in our lives are our guitars.

Gro: Yea but know what..... who cares.

Smo: Not me. Let's rock, let's soothe, let's do something to get it crunk up in here.

Gro: Sweet!!!!!!!! As you say the tables have turned once again.

Smo: Rock on!!

Gro begins playing a smooth rhythm on his acoustic. Smo blends in with a wailing solo and their night continues forward in happiness. Like kids in a candy store, This Little Light begins their Jam Session.

Screen fades to black as they continue jamming.
