Case Study: Something's Missing

*The screen fades in. Smo is sitting on the couch in his office. He appears down and seems to be out in space. He sits with a blank stare. Hubbard and Bud walk in.

Hubb: Hey Smo! (a few moments pass)... Smo?.....Smo?! Yoo hoo, Smo!?! (Hubb punches Smo)

Smo: Huh? What? Oh yea, hey guys.

Hubb: What's wrong, man?

Smo: (speaking very softly and barely audible) Gro's taken a leave of absence from NGFL.

Hubb: Gro took a leave of.....(pause)...absence from NGFL. Hmmmmm. (a few moments pass) Gro took..(pause)..... a leave of absence from NGFL. (look on his face changes) Gro took a leave of absence from NGFL. Whoa!!! Whoa!!! Gro took a leave of absence from NGFL!?!?!? That only means one thing! You've got to be joking around dude. This is not real. (begins pinching himself as if trying to wake himself from a dream) Ow! Ow! I better quit that.

Smo: I'm not joking, man. He's gone, retired, leave of absence, no more.... You get the idea.

Bud: (sits down in a chair) Gro took a leave of absence....(pause)...from NGFL. (stares up at the ceiling) No way. This can't be. This only means one thing.

Hubb: Do I hear an echo?

Bud: (face begins showing sadness) This only means one thing. (pause) Do I hear an echo?

Hubb: (slaps Bud) Yes, this only means one thing, and that one thing has happened and we can see from the way Smo looks that this thing has happened and now I feel like Smo looks because of this thing. It's an unbelieveable thing.j

Bud: Yea and this thing has also made me feel like Smo looks and how you say you feel. This thing has taken Gro away. Who would have thought this thing would have ever happened. I thought we were in this for life. I never thought that this thing could happen, would happen. This is so unbelieveable.

Smo: Now that we've all accomplished to feel how I look and you two now look how I feel because of this thing. Why don't we have a party to celebrate this thing. I mean it's down to us, Jason, and our pimp-friend Manny. I'll call Manny. Jason already knows about this thing so I'll just call and tell him to come down.

*Smo gets on the phone and calls Jason then proceeds to call Manny.

Manny: Hello.

Smo: Yo, Manny. Come down to the studio. We're gonna have a party to celebrate Gro being gone.

Manny: I'm up for a good party, but why is Gro gone.

Smo: He's taken a leave of absence.

*A click is heard and then a dialtone.

Smo: Hello? Hello?! Manny?!..... That mug hung up on me.

*Manny appears in the doorway before Smo can put down the phone.

Manny: What did you just say to me?

Smo: I was trying to tell you Gro took a leave of absence.

Manny: That's what I thought you said. I'll go get the beverages and call some of my ladies friend so we can feel rejection tonight.

*Manny walks down the hall and appears back in the doorway within a couple of minutes.

Manny: Did you say that Gro has taken a leave of absence?

Smo: Yes I did, Manny.

Manny: As in a leave of absence from NGFL?!?

Smo: Yes, Manny. As in a leave from NGFL.

Manny: (sinks down onto the couch) This only means one thing. And that thing has now made me feel like you sounded when you called me on the phone.

Smo: (rolls his eyes) Yes, Manny. That one thing has happened and now that everyone either feels like I look or feels like I sound and we all share the same looks now and same feelings because of this thing, let's party.

Manny: Yes, indeed. I will return shortly.

*Meanwhile, Smo, Hubb, Bud, and Jason chill in the news area of the studio.

Jason: Well if Manny would hurry up, we could get this thing going.

Hubb: I can't believe this thing has happened.

Bud: There must be some kind of conspiracy. This thing was never supposed to happen to one of us.

Hubb: Yea. One brother down. I wonder who'll be next.

Bud: I don't know man. Hopefully, it'll be me. You know, I've been getting pretty lonely lately.

Hubb: Yea, I'd like a little attention, also.

*Manny returns. Carrying a cooler full of beverages. Behind him comes a group of ladies, all ready to party.

Hubb: Oh yea, rejection city tonight, boys.

Bud: Let's go.

Jason: Finally, we can get this thing going.

Smo: All right. Party hardy, gentlemen.

*Party music begins playing in the background. The boys are seen being turned down by all the girls. Manny is seen over in the corner with 3 or 4 of the ladies. The screen fades to black.
